From United Empire Loyalists to water sports, Prince Edward County offers everything you need for the perfect family vacation.
pleasure parks
Home to 14 conservation areas, 800kms of shoreline and acres of pastoral views, Prince Edward County is a place apart. Described as “A little slice of heaven tucked out of harm’s way below the 401,” Quinte’s Isle has something for everyone.
Explore the dramatic scenery of Point Petre. Discover the inland lakes from the boat launch close to the house. Head for the towering dunes of West Lake in June and you’ll find them bursting with local blooms like sand cherry and sea rocket.
Visit the mysterious Lake on the Mountain and experience its captivating view of the Bay. Take to the water for diving, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, rowing, windsurfing, wakeboarding and fishing.
taste trail
With a terroir much like Burgundy, and an enviable microclimate, Prince Edward County is Ontario’s fastest-growing wine region, playing host to more than 30 vineyards. Be sure to visit nearby Waupoos Estates Winery, where it all began back in 2001. Stop at the restaurant to take in the idyllic lake and vineyard views — and maybe sample Ed Neuser’s salmon, prepared in a 100-year-old smoker.
Rich in farm-fresh ingredients, gourmet suppliers and top chefs, PEC is fabulous for foodies. Whether you want to get creative in the britannia house kitchen, or let someone else do the work for you at one of The County’s extraordinarily good restaurants, you’ll have all the ingredients for a delicious experience.
Visit the nearby Black River Cheese Company on a Saturday morning for fresh cheddar curds. Meet over 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes in Milford at Vicki’s Veggies — the mother of all roadside stands, housed in a former post office. Celebrate regional cuisine in Picton at Taste! Or simply follow the trail to sip, sample and savour at venues throughout The County.
hike, bike and bird
The best place to watch the spring and fall migrations, Prince Edward Point boasts 337 species.
Macauley Mountain offers 11kms of mountain biking trails, and the long country roads are perfect for bike tours.
Summer hiking turns into cross country skiing with extensive trails at Sandbanks and Macauley Mountain Conservation Area.
shop the county
The villages of Wellington and Bloomfield, as well as the town of Picton, offer an eclectic range of shopping, where service is personal and browsing encouraged.
Explore the rich Loyalist heritage, hunt for antiques, discover why this is home to so many talented artists, photographers and performers. You’ll find the place overflowing with great one-of-a-kind stores, as well as special events throughout the year.
